Long Runs of Homozygosity Are Correlated with Marriage Preferences across Global Population Samples

چکیده
Children of consanguineous unions carry long runs homozygosity (ROH) in their genomes, due to parents' recent shared ancestry. This increases the burden recessive disease populations with high levels consanguinity and has been heavily studied some groups. However, there little investigation broader effect on patterns genetic variation a global scale. study, which collected published data information about marriage practice from 395 worldwide populations, shows that reported preference for cousin detectable association distribution ROH this sample, increasing expected number longer than 10 cM by factor 2.2. Variation consequent rates are therefore an important aspect demographic history purposes modeling human variation. practices explain relatively small proportion distribution, consequently, population only partially informative cultural preferences.

Marriage Matching with Correlated Preferences
Authors of experimental, empirical, theoretical and computational studies of two-sided matching markets have recognized the importance of correlated preferences. We develop a general method for the study of the effect of correlation of preferences on the outcomes generated by two-sided matching mechanisms. We then illustrate our method by using it to quantify the effect of correlation of prefer...
متن کاملLong runs of homozygosity are enriched for deleterious variation.
Exome sequencing offers the potential to study the population-genomic variables that underlie patterns of deleterious variation. Runs of homozygosity (ROH) are long stretches of consecutive homozygous genotypes probably reflecting segments shared identically by descent as the result of processes such as consanguinity, population size reduction, and natural selection. The relationship between RO...
متن کاملGenomic Runs of Homozygosity Record Population History and Consanguinity
The human genome is characterised by many runs of homozygous genotypes, where identical haplotypes were inherited from each parent. The length of each run is determined partly by the number of generations since the common ancestor: offspring of cousin marriages have long runs of homozygosity (ROH), while the numerous shorter tracts relate to shared ancestry tens and hundreds of generations ago....
متن کاملConsanguinity Rates Predict Long Runs of Homozygosity in Jewish Populations.
OBJECTIVES Recent studies have highlighted the potential of analyses of genomic sharing to produce insight into the demographic processes affecting human populations. We study runs of homozygosity (ROH) in 18 Jewish populations, examining these groups in relation to 123 non-Jewish populations sampled worldwide. METHODS By sorting ROH into 3 length classes (short, intermediate, and long), we e...
متن کاملRuns of homozygosity in European populations.
Estimating individual genome-wide autozygosity is important both in the identification of recessive disease variants via homozygosity mapping and in the investigation of the effects of genome-wide homozygosity on traits of biomedical importance. Approaches have tended to involve either single-point estimates or rather complex multipoint methods of inferring individual autozygosity, all on the b...
